Let me share a (fake) secret with you. I LOVE (heart, even) soccer’s exciting, fanatical, production-stopping, once-every-four-years spectacle known as the World Cup. As we are approaching the tournament, I decided I would show some advertisements created by Umbro for the World Cup! First, take a look:

These seven women represent the only seven countries to ever win the World Cup (photo not in this order): Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Italy and Uruguay. Each of these countries gets it’s own ad, it’s own model, and even it’s own specialized crest! Umbro went out and found an artist from each country to do a unique crest for the shirts. For Argentina, who is my pick to win it all, Umbro went to record label ZZK Records, a leading label for Argentinian electro, reggaeton and dubstep. According to ZZK, they wanted to create a crest “With a sense of humour and an idea of what we’d want the boys to wear if they were dancing at a ZZK party.” Check out their design below, and the shirt worn by the Argentinian model Luli Fernandez.

The idea for these photos was from an advertisement that Umbro had from the 60′s. As the photographer noted, “I thought the idea of creating a modern interpretation of the Umbro advert from the sixties was an interesting concept.” I have myself been into antique ads for the past month or so, so this ad is really great and classic!

Too bad I won’t be in South Africa for the World Cup, but I can spend my time watching the making of and yelling at my TV. Let me know if you’d like to join!

Great web site and thanks for the information. It appears to be pretty tough to locate the world cup shirts in the US. Most stores don’t have them. The web seem to be a fantastic spot to be a buy world cup shirt.
