Tarantino posters…for fun!

Tarantino films usually have well designed materials, like posters or titles, and I love sifting through everything online when a new movie of his releases. But the best artwork associated with Tarantino and his films always seems to come from the mildly obsessed fans/designers/geeks, who have literally nothing to do with the man or his movies. Sometimes these gems emerge 16 years after the movie, like with this great Pulp Fiction poster by Ibraheem Youssef:

Youssef is a fantastic designer out of Toronto who I will definitely be keeping an eye on. He designed a series of posters, one for every Tarantino film to date. Usually I am a fan of Tarantino tribute artwork, because I too had a Pulp Fiction obsession phase. But where I usually gaze for a short moment, say “neato” under my breath to myself, and move on, I found this series by Youssef to be worthy of inspection.

They have a sophisticated and simple style, rich with texture. Iconic shapes as metaphors replace the foreshortened gunbarrel paintings that I’ve seen a hundred times. He uses subtle textures to help bring you that gritty feeling you get when watching unnecessary violence, but the posters have a quiet and delicate feel at the same time. I think these first two examples might be my favorite of the series, but they all have something clever to offer.

Youssef is selling prints on his website, so you can own one of these bad boys for real. Check out his website, and be sure to dig around his portfolio samples, he’s got some really cool stuff.

Now, a great website that isn’t in my face looking to usually advertise me anything. Cheers, please continue the good work.
