The power of artful.design.

Along with a love of design, I also have a real passion for drawing, sketching, painting, screen-printing and anything else I can get my hands into. I love to use mixed media for my artworks and really enjoy what a shirt can show through minimal colors. I really try to have all of my personal artwork to try and tell a story to whoever sees it, whether it’s just invoking an emotion. Make sure to click through the thumbnails to view the images larger! Mae: Fisherman

Mae: Fisherman

This is some art that's influenced on one of the best songs in the world - "Fisherman's Song" by Mae (listen to it here). The song touches on the beauty of love, and the song is so brilliant that I have listened to it at least 100 times. No jokes. This art is done with pencil and Sharpee on printer paper.

Note Taken

Note Taken

This piece, done in 2010, is my reflection on music and it's effect on me. I used marker, colored pencil and pencil to strike a combination of soft and rough, vague and succinct. I really love music, especially when I am working on anything graphic or artistic, to calm me down and really put my mind in a place that is neither in reality nor totally gone. It is in this center area, which I think is the subconscious, where I find my muse. The background reflects both the meta nature of music to me through the halo and the reverberations felt beyond that.  And no, she isn't talking; the music is talking to her.

T-Shirt: Glare

T-Shirt: Glare

T-Shirt made in 2009 entitled "Glare", this piece is an anime-ish tribute of mine. Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gundam and other shows permeated my youth and forced me to get hooked on anime. I credit anime for starting my life as an artist and even a designer as a whole. There is just something about the things that can be conveyed with the bare minimum of lines that always struck me as being of the utmost importance. I feel this even carries over to my design choices no matter what I do. This t-shirt is one of my favorites to wear. Let me know what you think and if you would like a t-shirt of your own.

T-Shirt: Like a Fox

T-Shirt: Like a Fox

T-Shirt made in 2008, "like a fox" is a tribute to what my friends and I always used to say in high school. It was one of those phrases that, like "in bed", was added to the end of sentences to make them funny. I decided to imitate the way that anime animal characters are always small and cute, like Hello Kitty or Pikachu. By the way, if you get those references, then you and I should talk right away!

2009 29 1/2" x 42" Mixed Media

This mixed media piece was created over a period of time in an attempt to get better at getting proportions down. I feel that, while this effort took a lot of time, it came out looking more "realistic" in a sense. This painting is one of a pair, the other of which is a male character. I always find it interesting about the way that a simple symbol (in this case, a heart) can add an extra feeling to the painting, but in a very comic book way.

2007 11" x 5 1/2 " Pencil Sketch

This is a hand draw sketch that I created as an exercise in drawing hands. However, my favorite thing about this sketch is the use of the shadows. The shadows create space in a lot of areas, and I think it really draws (no pun intended) attention to the eye.

2008 8 1/2" x 11" Markers, Pen

I experimented with different ways to work with markers as the main medium. This piece was one of my favorite because of the chaos that surrounds her while she is trying to make the viewer settle down.
